Rajkot (literally, the City
of Princes) was founded in the year of 1610, Vibhaji
Jadeja and Raju Sandhi. Rajkot was once the capital of the
princely state of Saurashtra Rajkot is famous for its
Bandhani Sarees, mirror-work, patchwork, beadwork and silk
embroidery, silver, textiles and a National weaving
institute which promotes traditional weaves. The pleasant
town is an important industrial area and a religious
center of the Arya Samaj.
Watson Museum and Library
The Watson Museum and Library in the Jubilee Gardens
commemorates Colonel John Watson, political Agent from
1886-89. The museum is a good introduction to Saurashtra
cultural heritage. Two imperial lions flank the entrance.
Among the exhibits are copies of artifacts from
Mohanjodaro, 13th-century carvings, and temple statues,
natural history exhibits. Located in the pleasant Jubilee
Garden, the museum is a good introduction to Saurashtra
cultural heritage. There is a huge marble statue of Queen
Victoria seated on a throne.
Kaba Gandhi No Delo
Gandhi ji's ancestral home, which now houses the Gandhi
Smriti, a permanent exhibition. The place is open from
Monday to Saturday. Kaba Gandhi No Delo is the house where
Mahatma Gandhi grew up. It now holds a permanent
exhibition of Gandhi an items. It is within the old city
on Ghee Kanta Road.
Rajkumar College
The British government as early as in 1870 established the
Rajkumar College. It became the most sought after school
of the region. Gandhi had his secondary education from
this school. Rajkumar College, built for the education of
the princes of the Indian state.
Rashtriya Shala
It was founded by Mahatma Gandhi, which has a center of
Patola weaving. It was established before the independence
to train and prepare the students to participate in the
struggle for freedom of the country.
Jagat Mandir
A beautiful carved temple of red stones of Shri
Ramakrishna Paramhansa It is made of red stones.
