Ahmedabad was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah to serve as his
capital in 1411 A .D. Ahmedabad is one of major city of
Gujarat. Tourists can visit Ahmedabad throughout the year.
Ahmedabad is also known for its association with the
Apostle of peace Mahatma Gandhi whose ashram is on the
banks of River Sabarmati, which is now a national
pilgrimage site. Ahmedabad is known for the beautiful
monuments of historical and archaeological importance.
Kite flying day, Dipawali, Holi, Navratri- are the most
favorite festivals of Ahmedabad people. They enjoy all the
festivals with their own style & culture. Now days these
all festivals also become International festivals.
Sidi Sayyad Mosque
The mosque of Sidi Sayyad near Lal Darwaja has earned
worldwide fame for its magnificent stone tracery. Single
part of the wall in the old citadel of the mosque built by
Ahmed Shah's slave, Sidi Sayyad, is celebrated the world
over for its exquisite stone window tracery. A super band
peerless example of delicate carving that transforms stone
into filigree. Three trees & four palms have been equally
spread and the pattern is spread over the whole surface
evenly.
Gandhi Ashram
Situated along the bank of Sabarmati River, this ashram
was founded by Mahatma Gandhi and has become a place of
pilgrimage. It was the center of India's freedom movement.
In 1930, that Mahatma began his famous Dandi March from
Gandhi Ashram to the sea to protest against the salt tax
imposed by the British. The Gandhi Ashram has a memorial
center, library and a Sound-and-Light (Son et Lumiere)
spectacle to offer to its visitors.
Jama Masjid (Jumma Mosque)
The Jama Masjid, built in 1423 by Ahmed Shah is one of the
most beautiful mosques in western India. This mosque is
beside the Mahatma Gandhi Road, to the east of the Teen
Darwaja. Jama Masjid is a finest mosque in India with 260
pillars supporting 15 domes at different elevations. The
mosque has a well-proportioned architecture. The building
is built at a grand scale and is an excellent example of
exquisite workmanship.
Ahmad Shah Mosque
Built in 1414, to the southwest of the Bhadra Fort, Ahmed
Shah's Mosque was one of the earliest mosques in the city.
It was probably built on the site of a Hindu temple, using
parts of that temple in construction. The front of the
mosque is now a garden.
Calico Museum of Textiles
This is one of India’s finest specialized museums. It
presents a tasteful display of Indian textiles, in
well-kept galleries. It was founded in 1949. The
collection of the museum dates back to the 17th century
and it also has an excellent reference library on
textiles. This museum should have been set up here, giving
artists, craftsperson, weavers, scholars and casual
visitors the opportunity to study and enjoy the beauty of
Indian textiles of different periods and from different
places. The Calico Museum of Textiles, housed in a carved
wooden Haveli displays antique and modern textiles
including rare tapestries, wall hangings and costumes.
Some of the old weaving machines are also kept here. The
museum displays a magnificent collection of rare textiles
that date back to the 17th Century
Hatheesing Jain Temple
Built outside Delhi Gate in 1850 by a rich Jain Merchant.
Shri Kesarisimha Hatheesing Shah built it. Built of pure
white marble and profusely decorated with rich carvings,
the Hatheesing Temple is dedicated to Dharamnath. The
Hatheesing Jain temple is one of the best ornate Jain
temples in Ahmedabad.
Sarkhej Ka Roza
The Sarkhej Roza is one of the most elegant and unique
architectural complexes in the city. The saint is said to
have died in fine Mosque - the perfection of elegant
simplicity. These buildings do not have arches and there
has been a remarkable use of pierced stone trellises. It
is notable for the complete absence of arches; a
feature
of Muslim architecture, the palace with pavilions and a
harem is also around the tank.
Museum of Miniatures
The NC Mehta Museum of Miniatures houses miniatures from
various Indian miniature painting schools. The Shreyas
Folk Museum displays the folk arts & crafts of Gujarat.
Unique collections of utensils are kept in the Vishalla
restaurant's Utensil Museum.
Adalaj Step Well
It
is situated 17 Kms. north of. Ahmedabad. Adalaj step
well built in 1499 A.D. prior to the main well there is an
open octagonal surrounded by galleries on four levels with
a circular well at the bottom. The step well at the
village of Adalaj is another. Adalaj Vav is richly carved,
every pillar and wall surface covered with leaves and
flowers, birds and fishes and friezes of ornamental
designs.
Kankaria Lake
It
is a circular lake constructed in 1451 by Sultan Qutubub-Din. In the center of the lake is an island garden
with a summer palace known as Nagina Wadi. The lake is a
popular recreation center surrounded by parks, 'BAL Vatika',
an aquarium, a boat club, a natural history museum and a
zoo.
Lothal
Lothal
is a perfect palace to get an insight of the Indus valley
civilization. Not only it is one of the southern most
outputs of the subcontinent's oldest civilization but it
also saw all the phases of the Harrapan culture
including the most mature period when the civilization had
all but disappeared from present day Pakistan.
Teen Darwaja
The literal meaning of 'Teen Darwaja' is 'triple gateway’;
Sultan Ahmed Shah built these arched gateways. These
gateways were meant as the royal entrance to the Maiden
Shah or Royal Square. From here the Sultans used to watch
the processions from the palace to the Jama Masjid.
